The NSTN AWR (Agency Workers Regulations) team have been having even more success recently. So much so that over the summer, the NSTN recruited a dozen new caseworkers to assist our chief negotiator, Stuart Irving, and his team.

The following quote is from an NSTN member whose school and agency are already settling:
‘I’m grateful to the Network's AWR team for their support in guiding me successfully through my claim. I had been working as a ‘teacher’ at the same school on a day rate of £155 through an agency. The team helped me through the process: first, I wrote to both school and agency, requesting the unpaid wages. Next, I filled in the ACAS early conciliation request. After this, the team helped me complete the ET1 form. Then I was given a case number and then the court sent the ET3 to the respondents. Eventually, I had a response from the school and the agency for the full settlement amount. From the point of calling the team in December 2024 to receiving the unpaid wages was approximately 8 months.’

The AWR team are experienced at making AWR claims: over the last 4 years they have helped reclaim £800,000+ in unpaid AWR parity pay. All those who have been assisted say the same thing: it is far easier to process a claim with the assistance of the AWR team than doing the claim all by yourself. They have now processed over 200 claims, so their knowledge is without compare. The NSTN is communicating to get both the NEU and NASUWT to engage in processing more claims themselves but the results with the two main unions are currently variable and dependent on the AWR knowledge of the local branch secretary.

If you have worked at a school or MAT for over 12 weeks and think you have an Agency Worker Regulation claim, contact the NSTN chair, Niall Bradley at [email protected] and begin your own AWR claim. Best of luck with your claim.
